Kuva Likenye

A new Cameroonian documentary film titled “Kuva Likenye” has been released. “Kuva Likenye” is a 30 minute documentary that chronicles the indigenous resistance of the Bakweris against German exploitation during the 18th century.

The documentary film is spiced with interviews from renowned Cameroonian historians, sociologists, and cultural professionals, animated cartoons, narrative commentary and live footages all in an attempt to reconstruct the story of the Bakweri- German wars of 1891 and 1894 in Buea.

The telefilm which is the third to be produced by the Buea-based pan African Association, AFRICAphonie is expected to be projected on some national televisions in the days ahead. According to the Executive Director of AFRICAphonie, Mwalimu George Ngwane the documentary film is motivated by the need for Cameroon to rehabilitate her unsung and unknown heroes in Cameroon’s history as well as contribute to the inventory of Cameroon’s cultural patrimony and national heritage

Bravo to all who took part in this venture. It is a better way of documenting our history, “as told by ourselves”, rather than being informed by some other “non-indigenous” person. A giant leap forward!
