Thief gets job after returning stolen corpse

A Douala-based long-time thief has landed a job after returning the corpse of a child he stole from the Laquintinie hospital based in Cameroon’s economic capital.

The thief probably thought he had succeeded to get the day’s booty when he sneaked out of the Laquitinie with a heavy traveler’s bag.
But when he opened the bag, the “booty” was the corpse of a child.
He however, summoned the courage and humility to make an open confession and return it to the owner.
Although panicking, he returned to the Laquintinie, hospital where he gathered a crowd to reveal his criminal past. After returning the bag he pledged never to steal for the rest of his life.
It seemed that providence had decided to help him keep his vow. For as soon as he finished his confession, someone offered him a job with a cleaning company to enable him put food on his table after quitting a life of stealing.

But the man was not the only thieve who was at the Laquantinie hospital that day. It soon emerged that the corpse belonged to another “thief”. Reports say the child was being treated at the Laquintinie when it died. And the owner, who reportedly could not afford to pick the medical bills that had accumulated, decided to sneak out of the hospital with the corpse to avoid settling the bills. So she wrapped it and packaged it in a bag before sneaking out of the ward.
But she was to be exposed when she soon remembered that she had forgotten something in the ward. She is said to have put the bag just on the veranda and returned into the ward when the thief probably waiting for the slightest opportunity to steal, swiftly made away with it.
It was not clear as to what the hospital authorities would do to the owner of the corpse, but reports say observers pitied her as she regained contact with her lifeless child.
